Ant Hampton is a British artist. His work, though varied in tone and content, has consistently played with a tension between liveness and automation, e.g. through the delivery of instructions to unrehearsed guest performers, or more recently to the audience themselves („Autoteatro”). His performance-based project Rotozaza which ended up spanning theatre, installation, intervention and writing-based works, became a partnership with Silvia Mercuriali and ended in 2009 after their last production Etiquette, which was also the first Autoteatro work. For Techne he works with Christophe Meierhans on an “automatic workshop” based on ideas developed in his previous involvement with interactive performance making.
